Ski club is done for the year!

Students can use their neck tags each Saturday to continue their ski club benefits- there's just no school supported adult supervision or transportation. Neck tags will be distributed at school if you did not attend the last day of ski club. Hang onto them as you can use your lesson stickers (green, blue or black)  next year.

A special thank you goes to all of the chaperons who sacrificed precious Saturdays to help with ski club.  It is because of them that this club operates in a manner that respects students, ensures their safety, and looks after their well being. Their patience is commendable.

A very special thank you goes to Mr. Whalen who graciously donated the ski mugs to students! We all appreciate your generosity!

Last Ski & Snowboard Club day is this Saturday 2/4

I just spoke to Brandywine and they say they have plenty of snow for Saturday. You will now keep your ski tag and it is good any Saturday from 11:30 -3 for the rest of the year!

If you are unable to attend this Saturday, go to the office at Learwood Monday and pick up your necktag.

As of Friday 1/27/12 at 5pm, Brandywine said they would be open on Saturday 1/28- so ski club is on!

Ski day #2

See you at your assigned bus! 10:00 Avon Lake High School - Dress warmly

Wondering what to do Monday? Don't forget that the passes you were given that have the blue stripe on them are good for 3 free times skiing or snow tubing anytime for anyone...they cannot be replaced so hang onto them.

Ski day #1 was a success!

45 degrees, lots of snow on the slopes, plenty of helpful chaperons to direct and put equipment on, lots of lessons, and kids with good attitudes make for a perfect day 1.

Important reminders:
1. Lock your equipment in the Ski Corral right across the bridge.
This free storage is there for the protection of your equipment- whether it is rented or owned.
2. Take lessons and practice the skills they are trying to teach you so you can get off the bunny hills that are filled with beginners who have little control.
Skiing and boarding is MUCH more fun (and safer) on the steeper hills.
 3. If you have a helmet- wear it!
Accidents happen (especially those caused by others) and I want to prevent serious head injuries. Almost all really good skiers and boarders wear helmets.

Email with any problems or questions and send me your photos- I will post them here!
See you next Saturday at 10 at the high school for week
Check here for any cancellations next week 1/14/12 due to lack of snow because the forecast does not look promising. I will post any possible cancellation as soon as I know.

Notice from Boston Mills/Brandywine

Each week, you have been advised to go to your lessons, told where to go, and when to go.
Here's a word from Brandywine:

Every member of Learwood Ski and Snowboard Club should have taken at least one lesson. At this point in the season, every Club member MUST have at least one sticker on his or her tag! Most students come out for at least 15-20 hours on their Club tags, and we are really only asking them for 1-2 hours of that time to get stickered and be on their way. Lessons are not an option, they are the resort's way of ensuring your safety. If you had a lesson sticker and lost it, get a new one this week. If you haven't taken a lesson, take one this week.

Snow, snow, glorious snow

All this snow is going to make Saturday February 5th , our FINAL ski club day, the best ever!
  • Make sure you thank your chaperons! They have graciously volunteered to help, without them, ski club would not be possible
  • On the bus ride home, you will be given your ski tags that can be used every Saturday until Brandywine and Boston Mills close. Yes, that's right- you can still ski every Saturday- it's just that you need to arrange your own transportation. I cannot release your tag to anyone but you. If you miss the last day, your tags will be distributed to you at school (and I cannot guarantee you will receive them there)  but I cannot  guarantee that you will will receive them since ski club officially ends Saturday, so don't miss! Keep in mind, receiving your tag is a bonus for showing up the last day.
  • Keep your tags for next year! You will be able to start out at the level you last completed.
After this Saturday, 2/5 all ski club issues are considered closed. Notify me prior to departure if there is anything that needs to be resolved. All good things must end, right?
....and Happy skiing! It's been a fantastic season!

Wear plenty of layers, get boots that give your feet some room,
and pay attention to how cold your fingers and feet get.
      Take warm up breaks often.
